pckt.blog - Why I Made It.

To think the reason I wanted to make all this in the first place was to have a blog of my own.. lol (hey ! I do have a blog ! and yer lookin' at it !)

I've been so occupied making pckt.blog that I haven't even had the time to sit down and write for my own blog. And every time I'd try I'd be caught up with a bug that bothered me, a feature that didn't exist yet, or something that just didn't feel quite "right..."

"Enjoy this lil blues riff that @nate posted on his lil website - plyr.fm - It's pretty short, but I thought it was cool. Take a listen while you're reading :)"

All that I wanted—was to have a little blog for myself... Somewhere I could write and share without too much effort (hah)... All the options were overly complicated. Too cluttered, too focused on setup and customization and settings and blah blah blah blah blah.

So many writing platforms focus on the "GRIND..." What the hell? I don't want to grind, I just want to share some things here and there without any pressure.

It took a while, but I feel like pckt.blog is finally at a point that feels comfortable. I can sit down and write without being bombarded with distractions. I'm not unsettled by little bugs and nuances with the design anymore. It just lets me write and focus on putting my thoughts to "paper." Everything I need is right here !

Before pckt, I had this complicated setup that turned a notion page into a website... While I did feel like notion captured the minimal distraction writing environment I was looking for, the way I had it set up to function as a blog was anything but simple and wayyyy too complicated. Also, I feel like one of the best parts about blogging is being able to share and read other people's blogs. And there's no way I would ever suggest anyone else to set up a blog the way I previously had. But it's difficult to convince others to start writing and sharing too, if the platforms available are so clunky and unpleasant to use.

I'm so happy to see the positive attention that pckt has gotten so far, and I really can't wait to see how things progress. What I really want is for more people to start writing so I can start reading !! The most exciting thing for me is to see how people will use pckt. What will they write about? What stories an perspectives will they share? What kind of art will they share?

Anyways... I think more people should have blogs. Maybe someday I'll add some social features on here like comments and such because connecting and communicating is so important... That said, I think our current relationship with social media (as a society) is not ideal... We may have... "Lost the plot..."

Social media is supposed to be about sharing and connecting and bringing people together—but with short, character limited, text posts and images with brief captions, we lose the ability to convey our full intentions.

I'm sure with blogging, people will still disagree. We are humans after all... It's not like I think that blogging will bring world peace or anything like that... But I do think that it gives an opportunity for people to carve out a slice of the internet that feels personal, and gives people the chance to express themselves in creative ways where other platforms would be limiting.

On pckt.blog especially, there is no pressure. You can be yourself, whoever that may be. You can say what you want and not worry about metrics and post performance or whatever. You don't even have to pick a theme for your blog (but maybe you should because they're cute). It's just something that's yours to craft and share independently.

Welp... I think I've said enough about pckt.

If anyone is actually reading this, thanks for taking the time. If you want to start writing a blog for yourself, here's a signup link: https://pckt.blog/r/LGROK8NQ8S
