Intro
I didn't get into actually playing D&D until the pandemic. A friend who had moved out to the East Coast invited me in to his virtual tabletop. I joined as a total himbo fighter named Maximilian Ironmonger. I had no idea what I was doing, and fumbled my intro to the party pretty awkwardly.
But I got into the swing of it and had a great time. At one point we met a Deva named Bob who had a fancy mace, and Max used a mace too, so I jsut started asking Bob about his mace.
One of the other players said "is this flirting?" and, much against type for me, I rolled with it and said "Yes. Yes this is flirting."
By the end of the campaign, Max and Bob got married and fought in the final battle together. They rode off into the sunset together. That hooked me on D&D.
Some of the other characters I've played since then:
- Dalia Dammir : Tiefling Light Domain Cleric with (of course) a tragic backstory. Played this in a campaign run by my brother-in-law for me, my daughter, my dad, and some other family.
- Arton Keenfound : Halfing Drunken Monk. My first monk and now I love those chaotic little fuckers. Ended that campaign on a high note.
- Jimmy Stoneford : Human Vagabond (custom class by my DM at the time) who ended up being a sort of Jack of All Trades Eldritch Knight (loooooosely based the character and backstory on Jim Rockford from The Rockford Files). Campaign ended when the DM was stepping back from running as many games as he was for a paid service.
- Puck Swiftfist : Gnome Warrior Of The Elements Monk. Only got to level 3 when that campaign stalled. Hoping to get back to it soon!
- (A Boy Named) Sue : Human Warrior Of Shadow Monk in a series of one shots my dad is running for me, my son, and my nephew.
- Dann : Tiefling Averrant Sorcerer in a campaign I'm in right now. RIP Dann, my first D&D character permadeath.
- Stann : Orc Fighter (1) / Warrior Of Mercy Monk (13) is Dann's brother. See Dann was born as a tiefling to orc parents. Blah blah blah Stann has been trying to find Dann, and will find out in a couple weeks that Dann died. Vengeance will be sworn.
I'm probably gonna do some posts about the Dann & Stann as that's my main ongoing campaign right now. I'm especially excited about my build for Stann. D&D 5.5 really allowed me to combo weapon masteries from 1 level of fighter with monk abilities to do some cool stuff.
