DLT not Crypto and not Web3

Our industry is plagued by the rebranding of DLT to be known as crypto despite cryptography being a primitive that the blockchain did not invent. And its association to web3 which is hugely plagued by scams and unethical tech that exploit people.

Builders on DLT need to rebrand away from this brand image as they have largely nothing to do with it. Building permissionless, trustless, decentralized infrastructure and apps that do good should not be associated with the aforementioned issues.

Chai's goal

The goal of Chai is to demonstrate that companies big and small can run independent infra for their communities to own their social data, and that we can federate and interoperate on the content our communities post on the AT network.

The tech stack ATproto.com offers includes:

A credible exit: switch between account (PDS) providers or self-host your own account
Control your feed: unsubscribe from any feed, make your own (algo + chronological)
Cryptographically verified posts thanks to IPFS tech
A pretty damn good UX as a basis to fork from the bluesky-social/social-app
WIP: decentralizing the AT Protocol (parts of ATP @IETF, and see: did:plc w3c)

PLC is a persistent global identifier system, which allows accounts to retain relationships while changing names or migrating between service providers. It makes use of cryptography and gives individuals (or organizations) direct control and ownership over their identitifier, but does not make use of any blockchain or cryptocurrency technology, and is inexpensive enough to provide as a no-cost service.
