"Networking" is not a bad word

It can even be fun, if you stay authentic

Collage of photos of a real-life meetup of conference attendees in lobby of a hotel, chitchatting with each other.

I used to dread the idea of "networking" and associated the word with "schmoozing."

What I've discovered: so much is about your mindset. Instead of the attitude "I want to meet someone who can give me something" try to have the approach of "What can I offer than might help someone?" or "What kindred spirits might I meet this time?"

Speaking of networking for the fun, I encourage those interested in children's literature (creating or reading) to attend kidlitchaton Bluesky every Tuesday night at 9 pm ET! Thanks to Greg Pincus and Bonnie Adamson for hosting.
