Screaming into the void 🗣

There's been this new trend among the people I follow on BlueSky where they post something like:

"Not getting any engagement on my posts lately, I think I'm gonna stop posting here."

"If I don't get a tip on this post, I'm deleting all my media!"

"I haven't gotten a repost all week, must mean no one loves me anymore..."

And I'm sitting over here just... a little annoyed about it. I get that we all have different priorities about why we use the sites we use and sometimes, especially when you're promoting as part of your literal job, you have to decide where/how to spend your time based on engagement. I get it.

But, and I say this as a millenial through and through, when did we all stop just posting into the void of the internet just for the sake of posting into the void? When did it all become so transactional?

For me, even though engagement means the world to me and even though I do this as part of my job, I'm still posting for me first and foremost. Yeah, there's certain things I won't post free unless I know I'm gonna get the traction I want on it and yeah, I've mentioned that I desperately want a post to perform well. But I don't continue to harp on about it as if complaining is suddenly going to make people click a like or repost button.

Literally, the only post I've made like this 👇

Again, I get it and understand why people do it. But honestly, as a consumer of a creator's social media, the moment I see a post like this I'm just kinda turned off by it all. As my eldest daughter would say, "It's giving 'pick-me' vibes".

Anyway, this is me, screaming into the void just for the sake of screaming into the void...
