Hello, PCKT!

Well well well, let's start with an initial post, shall we?

I'm Yernemm, I like VRChat, gaming, programming, tech, etc. etc. Over the past couple months, I've also enjoyed exploring many ATmosphere projects. From posting more on Bluesky, logging all my media consumption on Popfeed, organising my YouTube content on Surf, bookmarking things on Margin and Semble, and a bunch more...

I've also gotten into writing / blogging a bunch. Mainly over on my Notes website, which is built from an Obsidian vault using Quartz. As much as I like the idea of blogging on the Atmosphere, I have already been using my notes site for a while now, with pretty regular posts over the past month or so.

Independence vs Discoverability

The main problem with the way I'm currently blogging, is that I'm quite isolated from the rest of the Internet. I don't really care much for people finding my random posts and updates, that isn't exactly my objective when blogging. I just use this as a way to organise and document my thoughts. But, I do still like the idea that someone may randomly stumble upon one of my posts and spend even a couple seconds skimming over it.

I used Tumblr in the past, though I rarely made any lengthy posts back then. It just wasn't my thing. But, people would still find my posts from time to time, and that was neat.

The ATmosphere is still pretty small in comparison. Maybe it will grow over the years, maybe not. Still, it allows for some of that discovery whilst allowing me to maintain control of my data (in theory, I still use Bluesky's PDS afterall...)

I still want to try PCKT though. The free tier limits kinda suck -- although I picked PCKT over Leaflet strictly cause I prefer the design...

Fragmentation & Consolidation

I do want to use more ATmosphere apps. But, like many people, I already have much of my online presence on legacy social media. I already ended up moving my more interesting Tumblr posts and my single Notion page over to my Notes website, trying to consolidate my long-form presence to a centralised hub of yapping.

By posting here on PCKT, or Leaflet, I am once again fragmenting my long-form content.

But it doesn't have to be this way.

I could mirror my Notes page to the ATmosphere, but that would quickly reach PCKT's 15 page limit and I'd likely end up needing some kind of custom solution for this. Although, that would be interesting to explore. Storing an Obsidian vault inside a PDS sounds rather possible.

For now though, I might try an opposite approach.

I have an idea for a script that would run once every 24 hours or so. This script would pull all my PCKT posts, save them as individual Markdown files, and push them to my Obsidian / Quartz repo. I haven't actually done this yet, but it seems like it would be possible.

Anyways, that's it for my first post, see ya.
